[Trivia Heaven] Let's answer!

Here are the answers to my yesterday's questions:

Madonna did a TV commercial in Japan in 1986 for which electronics company?

The answer is Mitsubishi - "La Isla Bonita" has been used in this commercial and has been later included as bonus track in the "Something To Remember" album in 1995 (japanese edition).
You can watch the commercial below

When Glamour magazine put Madonna on their cover at the end of 1990, they airbrushed and retouched the cover photo to a shocking extreme. What was the one thing they changed that most offended Madonna?

Madonna was angry because they airbrushed the gap between her front teeth.

Do you know the full names of Madonna's biological children, Rocco and Lola?

Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon and Rocco John Ciccone Ritchie!

[Trivia Heaven] Let's Quiz! (Part 2)

So here am I again, with my trivia questions... you know the rules!

  •  Madonna did a TV commercial in Japan in 1986 for which electronics company?
  • When Glamour magazine put Madonna on their cover at the end of 1990, they airbrushed and retouched the cover photo to a shocking extreme. What was the one thing they changed that most offended Madonna?
  • Do you know the full names of Madonna's biological children, Rocco and Lola?

Hop on it!

[Trivia Heaven] Let's answer!

So, as I promised, here are the answers to the Trivia Quiz posted earlier!

Which of Madonna's favorite movies inspired her "Justify My Love" video?

The answer is "The Night Porter", a 1974 movie directed by Liliana Cavani.

How many of Madonna's music videos did Sandra Bernhard make cameo appearances in?

The answer is none - it was a trick question! (:
She did appear in "Truth Or Dare" documentary, but it was Debi Mazar who appeared in five videos: "Papa Don't Preach", "True Blue", "Justify My Love", "Music" and "Deeper and Deeper",

Which of her songs has Madonna said she hates so much she will never sing it again - but she did anyway?
Like our reader Broken guessed, it was "Material Girl" - Madonna often said she even regrets recording it, because it labeled her wrongly for life!

[Trivia Heaven] Let's Quiz!

This week's Trivia Heaven section is slightly different from the others: now, you can participate too!
Here are the "rules": we'll ask you three random trivia questions about Madonna, and if you want to answer, just leave a reply in the Comments section!

Try not to "google" anything! Answer what you think is right and we will publish the right answers tomorrow!
You can choose the questions you'd like to answer too!

Ok, so:

  • Which of Madonna's favorite movies inspired her "Justify My Love" video?
  • How many of Madonna's music videos did Sandra Bernhard make cameo appearances in?
  • Which of her songs has Madonna said she hates so much she will never sing it again - but she did anyway?

Happy brainstorming!

[Trivia Heaven] Born to be Alive... some other time!

Did you know that Madonna turned her first chance to become (relatively) famous in 1979?
So, back in the 70s, there was a singer named Patrick Hernandez, who a hit called “Born to Be Alive” and hired Madonna as his back up dancer.

While on tour in Paris, Patrick really took a liking to the future star and wanted to help her advance her career. However, Madonna wasn’t pleased with the slow progress that his managers were making with her and bid Patrick and Paris adieu so she could make it on her own terms.

Check out the video below! Madonna is the lead dancer and you can see her best at 2:00 mark.
Warning! Catchy '70s disco.

[Trivia Heaven] Beautiful Stranger

This week's trivia, instead of his remixes, was sent to us by Nenad:

On the last show of Drowned World Tour in L.A., Guy Ritchie appeared on stage instead of a dancer, wanting to surprise his wife - and he did.

Speaking of the last show, it was marked by the events of September 11th, so Madonna wore the red, American kilt instead of the black, Scottish one. Also, Madonna did not want to cancel her shows after the attacks, which brought to a quarrel with her publicist, Liz Rosenberg - they even didn't speak for a while.
Gossip, gossip!

[Trivia Heaven] Wheels on the Bus

This week's trivia was sent to us by our reader Petar, aka broken - thanks a lot! (:

If you're a hardcore fan, you could have noticed, while browsing endless lists of Madonna's unreleased songs, demos and fakes, a song called "Wheels On The Bus." Even though people were confused after hearing it on the radio and seeing it on tv and after all the negativity towards the lyrics and the video, this was not the result of "Madonna on drugs" or something, because she's not performing this song anyway!
The woman who caused all this commotion was British singer Mad' Donna, who got her name because her voice is very similar to Madonna's. Because, "Wheels on the Bus" is, in fact, a '50s American children's song by an unknown artist. It was based on the British song called "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Rush" and it is very popular in Britain and the US. The song is very catchy and the kids sing it often while on bus tours.
The single was released in 2002 and has the lyrics slightly changed, with "Ray Of Light" instrumental in the background. The video is also similar to "Ray Of Light." The single reached No. 17 on British charts and made it to charts around Europe, too!

You already know you can send us your stuff too, and you know where, so: please do!

[Trivia Heaven] Coulda been, Shoulda been

We all know Madonna isn't the best actress out there, but we watched all of her movies anyway.
She appeared in 19 movies and one TV show, won one Golden Globe (for Evita) and many Razzies.

Maybe she could've won more awards - if she appeared in more movies. Here's the list of movies Madonna was rumored to be a part of in the past.

[Trivia Heaven] "Forbidden Love" symbolism

Let's go back in 2006, the fabulous "Confessions Tour" and its even more fabulous backdrop videos. This time we'll talk about "Forbidden Love".

The backdrop begins with one cell which represents the first human being. The cell then divides and floats as if they’re trying to search for something. They begin to separate into groups in the shape of religious symbols which portrays religious segregation. Towards the end of the video, all groups unite and they start to collide against each other. This represents breaking down the barriers between all religions resulting in the human population as one unified whole - one cell - just like how it all begun.
Just one kiss. Just one touch. Just one look. Just one love.

Also, Slant Magazine mentioned it in its review of the show:
"...Madonna's performance of "Forbidden Love," during which two men of color act out a disco-zombie dance of romantic disaffection. Behind them on the screen: a spectacle of blood corpuscles connecting to form symbols of hope and unity. Madonna is trying to convey how oppression is internalized, but her codification of emotional crisis is somewhat bloodless."

[Trivia Heaven] A Ciccone on the cover of Vogue... but it's not Madonna!

Looks like Madonna, but it ain't her: it's Madonna's sister, Paula Ciccone, modeling and covering Vogue Mexico back in 1987.

[Trivia Heaven] The Immaculate Conception... I mean, Collection!

Today, we'll talk about Madonna's first greatest hits compilation album, released back in 1990.
Originally named "Ultra Madonna", the name was changed as Warner Bros. felt that it was too similar to the name of dance artist Ultra Naté.
The title of the album is a loose pun of the Immaculate Conception, the conception of the Virgin Mary without any stain of the original sin.

And speaking of the conclave and while we wait for the new pope, here's an interesting fact:
Madonna dedicated the album to "The Pope, my divine inspiration". This led to many believing it was dedicated to Pope John Paul II, but it was actually dedicated to her brother, Christopher Ciccone, who had spent the year on tour with Madonna ("The Pope" is one of his nicknames).

The album is best-selling compilation album to date.

[Trivia Heaven] Burning Up.. almost fatal!

Did you know that Madonna nearly died during shooting the video for "Burning Up"?

The director of "Burning Up", Steve Barron, said when M was laying in the boat on the lake, they were filming from above her using a "massive" crane.

The shot wasn't lined up correctly, so when they extended the arm out until they were directly over her, the wheels of the apparatus behind them lifted off the ground, and the whole thing started to tip over. He said if they had extended the arm out even an inch or two further, the crane would have fallen on her and she "definitely would have died".

[Trivia Heaven] What the fuck do you think you're doing?

Ok, this is a pretty famous one, but we'll share it anyway: back in 2003, prior to the release of Madonna's 9th studio album "American Life" (it's its 10th anniversary soon!), the singer and her team wanted to prevent illegal download of the material. So what did they do?
They created a number of false song files of similar length and size as the actual songs from he album and posted them on various P2P sites. Some of these files delivered a brief message from Madonna saying "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" followed by minutes of silence.

Listen & Download it below:

But but but!
A hacker decided to take revenge on Madonna, so he hacked her website and posted a message stating "This is what the fuck I think I'm doing..." followed by download links for each of the album's songs.
The website was closed after the attack for about 15 hours. Huh!

[Trivia Heaven] "Confessions on a dance floor" started as what?

In an interview for "Rolling Stone" magazine back in 2005, Madonna explained the creation of her "Confessions On A Dancefloor" album...

“Confessions On A Dance Floor” began as a musical film. The French director Luc Besson, best known for The Fifth Element, was writing a screenplay about a woman on her deathbed looking back on the life she thought she had lived but, due to senility and amnesia, didn’t actually experience. Madonna, who was set to star in it and write the music, began working with Stuart Price, Pat Leonard and Mirwais on songs spanning the last century of popular music.
“I had to write music from the Twenties, big-band stuff from the Forties, Sixties folk music a la Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez, punk, and music from now, which is where ‘Hung Up’ came from,” she explains. “I made my own research book, and I had tons of reference material. But when I finally got the script, it was 300 pages long. And I was really not happy with it. It wasn’t what I wanted it to be. It just wasn’t.”
The disappointment still lingers in her voice. Like most successful people, Madonna is not a quitter. So though she didn’t like the script, she refused to abandon the material she’d written.

Trivia Heaven is back!

Even though the English version of our website didn't exist back in the day when we had a weekly section named Trivia Heaven, we're bringing it back! And this time, our foreign readers will get the chance to enjoy it too!

We had so much fun this time last year, when Madonna performed at the SuperBowl, and then announced her tour, and then all the new music and videos... but, this year won't be that exciting.
So, while we're waiting for new projects, to make the mid-album season pass quicker, we'll post trivia about Madonna, her life and work, and we invite YOU, the fans, to share it with us - if you know any interesting facts!

Our e-mail address is ever the same: madonna.serbia@yahoo.com!

We'll start from MISHEARD MADONNA LYRICS.
