While it's been reported that Madonna collaborated with hit-making producers like Diplo and Avicii on her upcoming 13th studio album, offbeat indie rocker Ariel Pink recently revealed that he too was recruited to work on the Material Girl's next LP. Unfortunately for Pink, he also shared his opinion on why Madonna wanted to work with him, and that's when the unlikely partnership ended.

"They need something edgy. They need songwriting," Pink told Faster Louder (via Pitchfork). "She can’t just have her Avicii, her producers or whatever, come up with a new techno jam for her to gyrate to and pretend that she's 20 years old. They actually need songs. I'm partly responsible for that return-to-values thing."
Pink didn't stop there. "I guess it's called 'throwback,' but the first record was so good because of the songs," he added. "It's been a downward slide [since]. Ray of Light is not cool. And all the other stuff she's done after that, it’s not like it matters. It really shows a drain of values. People need more substance in their mac-and-cheese. People need more sugar or something."

Those comments enough would warrant Pink being eliminated from Madonna's upcoming album… only he may not have been involved with the project to begin with. In a tweet to a fan calling for Pink's dismissal, Madonna's manager Guy Oseary wrote, "[Madonna] and I have never heard of [Pink]. The label may have reached out but M has no interest in working with mermaids." Oseary is likely referencing Ariel, the main character in Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Also coming to the aid of Madonna was Grimes, who tweeted "Ariel Pink's delusional misogyny is emblematic of the kind of bullshit [every] woman in this industry faces daily." Surprisingly, the Black Lips soon entered the fray in defense of Pink. In response to Grimes' tweet, the band wrote "how was that mysogonitic [sic]? He just said he didn't like much of her music after the first album?" (The Black Lips, after all, are no strangers to fighting against misogyny.) Grimes also added, "Also, Ray of Light is a masterpiece," to which Pink replied, "I prefer 'Live to Tell.' Also immaculate <3 nbsp="" p="">Pink's Twitter is now littered with retweets either in support of or slamming the "True Blue" singer, but in the face of his new infamy, it appears as though he won't be on the new Madonna album. "I haven't heard from Madge in the past 24hrs. Was it something I said? #thankyou #bigmouth #nexttime," he tweeted Tuesday morning.

As for Madonna's new album, Rolling Stone spoke to Oseary recently and the manager revealed that the singer is hard at work on the follow-up to MDNA, but it's still unclear whether the album will arrive later this year or 2015. Oseary also confirmed that Madonna was working in the studio with Diplo, as teased on her Instagram account. "She loves Instagram. She’s so happy she doesn’t have to go through management to talk to her fans," Oseary tells Rolling Stone. "I can see exactly what she's up to, which is great. But, in her mind, she's really happy that she can do whatever she wants, and I can’t even have an opinion on it because it’s already out by the time it's done."
