The leading lady in Madonna's life has passed away at the grand age of 99.

Elsie Mae Fortin was just three months shy of her 100th birthday when she died peacefully at her home in Michigan.

Madge, who was five years old when her mother died from breast cancer, is believed to have been raised by Elsa.

The 53-year-old made regular visits to Elsa's Bay City care home in the months leading up to her death.

Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, released this statement: "I'm sorry, but Madonna will not be issuing any statements or conversing with the media regarding her grandmother."
