Madonna, Perfume Logo: Australian Artist Claims Copyright Infringement, Takes Legal Action

To one Aussie artist, Madonna's new Truth or Dare perfume carries the sour stench of copyright infringement. As Australia's Sunday Telegraph reports, renowned Sydney painter RJ Williams is taking legal action against the pop superstar, alleging that the "M" logo adorning bottles of her fragrance bears a striking resemblance to a symbol he's been using for eight years.

Williams trademarked his distinctive "M" last year, and in a letter to the Queen of Pop's manager, Guy Oseary, he's asked the singer to stop using the logo, fork over profits earned thus far and sign a licensing deal for future use.

"Friends from all over the world have been calling me upon seeing the Truth or Dare by Madonna campaign to express their disgust and support," Williams told the newspaper.

"It's about my integrity as an artist," he added. "I do not think it should be able to be used by a giant cosmetics company."
