- Avril Lavigne wants to be the new Madonna and follow her idol by having a career which lasts for decades.
The singer, 26, said: "I definitely can see myself still being out there in 20 years' time. "I want to be around the way Madonna has done it. She's had her life but still maintained her career throughout." (daily record)
- Newsman-turned-TV personality Piers Morgan has given Madonna hope after snubbing the pop superstar from his new CNN talk show - he'll lift the ban if she publicly apologizes for being an annoyance to him. Morgan famously clashed with the Material Girl several times when he was a tabloid editor in the UK - and he's launching his new show by insisting she isn't welcome as a guest.
He says, "She's kind of been an irritant in my life for 20 years, so I had to ban her from the show. It's probably quite childish, but it made me feel better." But Morgan insists the door is still slightly ajar for Madonna, should she want to appear on his show, which debuts next week, January 17 in America.
He adds, "A bended-knee apology on CNN might swing it. Other than that, it's a lifetime ban." And the British newsman already has plans to interview a major pop superstar: "Lady GaGa is half her age, twice as good-looking, twice as talented, and twice as hot. I mean, why would I bother with Madonna, seriously." (aceshowbiz)
- Madonna has been embroiled in a police investigation after a suspected thief plunged 100 feet (30 metres) from an apartment block and landed by the back door of the star's London home on Friday afternoon (07Jan10).
The Holiday hitmaker's $15 million Marylebone property was surrounded by cops after a man being chased by officials attempted to climb out of a window in the block next to Madonna's property.
He fell into a communal parking area just a few feet from the star's door and was admitted to a central London hospital, where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Madonna's head of security tells the publication: "We have given the police everything they need. I can't say if it was Cctv film. I also can't say if Madonna was here at the time of the accident". (female first)
