Seventeen years ago today, album "EROTICA" hit the stands worldwide. It was Madonna's probably most controversial and one of the most personal albums ever. The album followed the release of the x-rated book "SEX" and the poorly received movie "Body of Evidence".
The album is Madonna's first album to bear a PARENTAL ADVISORY label, and it was produced by Shep Pettibone and André Betts. Erotica is a concept album about sexuality and relationships. Each track explores a different facet of sexuality, usually involving sexual relationships. It is interesting to note that the song "In This Life" is based on George Gershwin's "Prelude No. 2". The song talks about Madonna's two very close friends who died of AIDS.
Six singles got off the album: "Erotica", "Deeper and Deeper", "Bad Girl", "Fever", "Rain" and "Bye Bye Baby".
The album was promoted on "The Girlie Show" tour (1993) and Madonna performed 7 tracks from the album: "Erotica", "Fever", "Bye Bye Baby", "Deeper and Deeper", "Rain", "Why's It So Hard", and "In This Life".
The Rain Tapes is a name given by fans to a collection of twenty-three demos recorded by Madonna in late 1991 and early 1992. Most of the songs are early and alternate versions of songs used on the Erotica album, and some others were brand new and never published.
